Giorgos Albanidis

Today, 14 March 2026, we say goodbye to our beloved Giorgos Albanidis, a wonderful man, husband, father and grandfather.

Giorgos was born in Nea Kessani in February 1956. His parents, Kostas Albanidis and Fotoula Papantoniou, came from Basait in Eastern Thrace, and his grandfather, whose name he carried, was one of the worthy founders of our refugee village. Giorgos lost his beloved parents when he was 18, but despite the hardships he stood strong beside his younger sister, Giannoula, while studying at the KATEE (Centres of Higher Technical and Vocational Education) of Larissa, in the School of Agriculture, Department of Animal Production. After his studies and his military service he worked as an agricultural technologist at the Rodopi dairy cooperative. He married Dimitra Metsiou in 1981 and together they created a beautiful family with their two fine sons, Konstantinos and Anastasios, of whom he was rightly proud. Generous, energetic and active in many fields, he served our area, first as president of the community and of the community council and later as Deputy Prefect for Agriculture. For his worth, his kindness and his warm smile he was much loved by the whole village, which mourns today together with his family, who have lost a dearly loved member.

Rest in peace, Giorgos! May your memory be eternal!
